Counterfeits are a hot-button topic, but there is no need to be rude. Reduce the amount of venom in your replies, or this topic will be locked.

philidelphian......i dont think calling something chinese implicates an entire nation, its simply a term used to indicate a country of origin. an american car is a car built in america and not built by every person in america. if so then some of the titles on this forum need to be removed, ie:- american, canadian, british aussie etc etc.

I can only hope after all the hard work of the likes of Azda (not asda andyg)and the members of predecimal.com who have taken the steps neccessary to stop the seller continuing to sell copies of very expensive pieces on ebay, have enthused the original poster bryan10au and anyone else who has bought copies from this seller, to go ahead and seek a refund from the seller for the copies they have bought in good faith as being original.

they can talk all day about where these copies originated from with the seller, they can talk all day with the seller whether the copies implicated the entire chinese, bulgarian, russian or french nations, or wherever the pedantic wish to choose, but at the end of the day...........the intention of posters here (azda, peter1234, myself) are simply to alert forum members of this sellers copies of coins being sold at prices based on prices of original/authenticated pieces.
regardless of origin of the copies.....that action is commendable.

to the forum administrators here...the use of the words "get a grip man" is not considered rude here in the uk
but is often used jokingly amongst friends whos opinion differ.

Thanks Azda! I was the one who bought 26 coins from Roy. Like has been said, I think I'm in the clear, but I had counted the seller as one I could rely on, and ALL information to guide us through the minefield of ebay is very welcome indeed.

Top work!

I couldn't agree more, Azda also highlighted a dodgy 1763 Northumberland shilling I had bought (not from the same seller but from a well known auction house in Melbourne). I would not have spotted the problems if it had not been for his persistence and others with a like minded sense of justice for all us trusting buyers using the net.

Most fakes have some small flaws/marks by which they can be identified. In this case one of the more prominent is a small dot under the first C of the date on reverse. (top example is from a hopefully genuine coin ;) - the three bottom examples are taken from different fake coins). However these 'repeating depressions' only refers to this specific production. Other fakes may have other marks.

This is such a pity.Trying to clear up internet fraud.
This is a coin forum where huge doubts have been put on one dealer.I can give you plenty more.
Innocent buyers please think twice and do research, get impartial advice before parting with large sums on known dodgy coin types.
Maybe speak to friendly forums where experts are happy to take PM's.(me it is currency farthings...copper/bronze post 1672)
I do like coin community as there are many excellent threads. Please everyone calm down.Us coinies Mostly are educated, polite maybe sometimes off the wall but not bad chaps/ladies.

We do indeed need threads where discussion about counterfeits happens - however, please note the term 'discussion', as opposed to shouting match or certain members putting others down for a differing opinion.

I know That wasn't what I was referring to, but thank you. Most of what I was talking about had already been edited out by various staff members. There's nothing wrong with the topic, and most have remained polite (thank you!), just please keep things civil. We know everyone here is capable of it

Seuk's post is the first one in this thread (now upto 6 pages) that has given us an idea of what to look for with these fakes, Prior to this we just have opinions rather than evidence. Even the sellers admission is no such thing, merely promising a refund to anyone who contacts him.

I asked for evidence, all I got was insults.

It was clearly indicated to look on other forums where the problem was... and a bit of research would of sorted this.Open your eyes.
Alledged insults are in your imagination.
I will not and don't suffer fools so take a deep breath.Wise up and if you still have a problem PM me.
End of.
