Zee,
Under inking is NOT Missing overprint and they are considered 2 separate "type" of errors. Fwiw, this should be a separate topic.

Missing overprints
1)Black portion Missing overprint
2)Green Portion Missing overprint
3)Both missing referred to as "missing overprint"

The error you posted is "overprint of back". Here too there are different classifications (separate topic).

The statement below is incorrect.

Quote:

Actually guys, I think that the green ink was just dry.
"(The treasury seal,,, serial numbers,,,, district seal,,, and district numbers are all overprints and are all printed simultaneously)"

Although overprints are referred to as 3rd print "black" and Green" overprints are 2 "separate stages" of the printing process done on the "same" machine. Ergo, black and green overprints are NOT printed "simultaneously". This has led to numerous errors being misclassified in the past for diff types of errors.

Stephen Sullivan's and or Dr Fredrick Bart's book on US currency errors are an excellent sources of info. Unfortunately, there is NOT a whole lot to be found on the web and in some cases the explanation is just simply wrong. I have found a bunch of mis info on errors on the net and it's sad and very misleading at times.

Peace

Thanks for the correction Ceylon. While I do have several errors, I haven't given much thought as to the causes. Looks like I need to learn more than I already have. I don't know Stephen Sullivan, but I have dealt with Fred Bart (nice guy).

Here is one kinda like yours Nick, I looked and looked, but I can't find an error on it. I guess that it is just a 'substitute' for an error.

That's a nice one alright, good color. It is printed a bit off level so we could call it an error replacing an error. The value just went up!

Nothing major here, except there is "extra piece" of paper - right bottom corner (1st note). Notes are in sequence.

Also the "minor" alignment error with the ink blob note was all crimpled up in a fresh BEP sealed brick. It also has minor ink issues on the left side of the note as well.

Never really did get an answer to the question of whether or not this over inking is an error in my other thread, so I'm posting it again here.

I have an unc strap with this type of issue. But in my case the "excess ink" (concentrated on the left side embossing) from the front is on the back (corresponding side) as well around the green border. There are probably 30 notes with about 5 of them heavily soiled and it goes in and out skipping notes.

As to whether it would be considered an error I do not know as I have not seen any listed up to this point and will someone be willing to pay a premium for such an item is the question.

Siuol, had an explanation for this type of thing somewhere down below but in that case it was the opposite issue where the "excess ink" had been "wiped clean". BTW, where is Siuol?

Peace

zeewool,

Not sure what's the problem. Everything seems OK on my side. Other emails are coming through OK.

The problem is mine, I can't send to anyone today for some reason. I'm on my way to the PO now. (Keep, spend or sell, gift horses, anyway).

My new car was delivered early this morning, I had been waiting for it for nearly a year, so I was looking for an excuse to go for a ride.

Nick, although I know how to drive, I don't know how to take pictures, so I don't own a camera.
