After reading about it on this forum, I decided to check for the '64 proof Kennedy with accented hair. I found this one but I'm not really sure. Here's a link to the website that was posted in another thread.
http://www.bestcoin.com/1964-Proof-...f-Dollar.htm

The reverse looks right to me. The broken Rays are pretty clear in my hand even if they're tough to see well in the picture. I'm not sure about the hair though. In hand, it looks a little different from the others but I can't really pinpoint how.

The website also mentioned that there are "Transitional" coins that have the "accented" reverse with the normal obverse. Could this be one of those? Is there any premium on a transitional half dollar?

Thanks.

The photo is not the best, but from what I see, I would say NO to accent hair.

Another PUP is the broken lower left serif of I in LIBERTY, yours appears to have a normal I.

I agree with you about the I. I was leaning toward the obverse being normal. I'm pretty confident that the back is the type that is usually associated with the accented hair obverse though.
It's tough to see from the picture but, assuming I'm right and it is the type 1 reverse, does it matter? Is there anmy interest in the transitional coins between accented and normal hair?

I'm home from work and was able to take another look at this coin. Based on the I in LIBERTY, the obverse is not accented hair. If anything, the bottom left serif is bigger than normal.

I am convinced that the reverse is the Type 1 though. I hope this pic is good enough to convince you too. I'm sure I'm right though looking through my loupe.

So, is it worth anything? Does anybody collect these "transitional" half dollars or is this a variety that nobody cares about?

Thanks again.

pfriddle, I do collect those.. However this is not the standard accented hair. If your saying that the reverse is the same yet the obverse (FRONT) is not then that would be a strange bread!

What about the designer's initials on the reverse? Does it have the straight "G" or flared "G"?

It's the straight G. Sorry about the picture quality.

I would think if you have a transitional variety, it would be sought after by variety collectors. I would think it would carry a premium. The link you posted stated that they were "uncommon".
