Was contemplating starting a new thread but figured I'd ask my question here as it's related to old bills found in circulation... The question is, is there a best way to sell or trade or just plain get rid of them? (and by 'getting rid of' I don't mean "giving them away" so stop right there...)
The reason I ask is that I can't help myself when I see a small head note... I have to save it... but looking through my notebook tonight I realized that I've got hundreds and hundreds of dollars in mostly "face value" notes because they're just not in collectible shape but I can't bring myself to spend them on groceries...
What I'd like to do is downsize the collection and use that money to purchase some nice bills but like I said, I don't want to just spend them... Are there dealers that would be interested in them? Or is it not worth their time? I feel that at least if I get rid of them to a dealer at face (or slightly above in the case of a few Star Notes) then at least they might end up with another collector...

I have seen a bill from the 70's out in the wild for a really long time -- years and years.... As far as all the old notes go --- there isn't a lot you can do with them. I suppose you could spend them at coin shows and while the dealers probably don't want them, they will use them to make change so they might just end up with someone who wants them.

skippy - I have a similar problem but since I only dabble in currency, I haven't gotten around to making a plan. It might make sense to find replacement currency in Unc. condition, buy that, then cash in the replaced currency. Keep what you want, spend the rest?
My entire currency collection came from circulation. Very few are crisp uncirculated.

Yesterday, I got a crisp Series 1995 $10 bill from a bank. That was definitely a keeper.

Some of you may know that I'm a member of my high school band. Anyway, I had to pay a $120 fee today, but all I had was a fifty and four twenties so I got someone to break a twenty for me. One of the ones I got back was a series of '95 and in great condition even compared to a lot of 2013 notes. SN is B38188537P.

Although not worth posting a pic since it's in circulated condition, I found a small head $5 a couple days ago. It's really hard to find the small head bills around here nowadays. Not worth anything at the moment, but I'll keep it anyway.

I found 2 older 5 dollar bills, a 1988A and a 1995. The 1995 I kept since it's the best 1995 I've found condition wise and because it's from Minneapolis, the hardest FRB for me to find, but the 1988A I spent since it has writing on it.

To be honest, I'm getting worn out from "having stuff"... All my life I've collected things, comics, baseball cards, Hot Wheels, Coins, Currency, original comic art, Mad magazines..it's making me sleepy just thinking about it.... and trying to stay on top of it all is wearing me down, I really want to downsize it all and just keep a few things from each category... I'm not really into "complete" collections and all that, I'd rather just have a few examples that I really like... collecting is an unruly obsession and it's so much easier too collect than get rid of... The problem I see with all these old notes is them being just over face, it's not worth it to sell on ebay and take a 13% hit on their fee so even though it's worth a little something, it's more trouble than it's worth to sell them... maybe I should just sop end them.. make some other collector happy to find them in circulation.. maybe I'll earn karma points

Put a little sticker on first with the CCF web address so we can get some new recruits out of it.
