If you have any recent-series J, R, S, T, V, W, X, or Y blocks, you could sell those to me for Georging purposes.

Found both of these today out in the wild at work. Haven't seen many of the 1963A $5's and this one seems to have a very disproportionately thin margin on one side. On the reverse the margins seem to be okay though. The whole bill is noticeably shorter than a standard size bill. Can anyone provide any guidance and what this could be? A5 first I thought maybe someone cut off a little bit off, but since the margins on the back seem to be even it makes me think that's not what happened? Very stumped and hoping it's not a fake... Also found the 1969 $50. Was a good day for finding "older" modern notes. Found a few stars earlier on in the week that I will post later.

I suspect the five was cut. The reverse margins look a bit narrow as well (reverse margins are normally wider than obverse). Nice finds!

I looked through my drawer when starting my shift tonight and it turns out someone used a 1988 $100 to buy something. I didn't trade for obvious reasons, but it was still cool to see since it's in REALLY nice shape for a small portrait 100.

I'd have bought it. If you need the cash, you always have the option to spend it.

Thank you for the opinion on this, I'm guessing that is what is has to be as well. No other explanation I can think of for the bill being shorter than it should be other than being cut.

I saw a guy spend a 50 dollar bill on coffee at DD, goes to show some people treat businesses as banks but they actually took it! And then I saw a girl carrying her change in one hand from a purchase, and I'm prettty sure there was a 1985 dollar bill on top.

Two days ago, I got a pair of '96 fifties from the bank, but I spent them as it was a bit much to hold on to. Then yesterday, at a coin show, I made a $200 withdrawal from an ATM. It gave me 10 twenties, and three, yes, three, were small portraits. I didn't want to spend them, so I withdrew another $80, and got another small portrait. The series dates are 1981A, 1985, 1988A and 1993. The 81A is taped, but the other three aren't bad at all. I've never found one before this.

Numisma, my mom had a similar experience. A few months ago, she withdrew $300 in twenties from an ATM, and 2 were small portrait 1985s. One had to be in CH-CU condition, and I immediately gave her a colorized 20 for it. It's still in my collection today, and I just feel lucky that she withdrew those bills and not someone else who would've just spent them.
BTW, this must be a sign of the times, but I consider any dollar bill from 2003A or earlier rare. This past week at work, I've had at least $20 in ones in my drawer, and none were older than 2006. And to up the ante further, I can still say I have NEVER (since I started paying attention a year ago) received a dollar bill older than 2009 in change. I get older dollar bills from the bank when I obtain in bulk, but with any transaction that involves me spending money at a store and receiving some ones back in change, my best finds are some 2009s in dismal condition.

With ones, I find about an equal number of 2009 and 2013. I come along 2006 ones in change on a semi-regular basis, although they are uncommon. I rarely ever find 2003A or earlier anymore, although I can bring myself to spend a 2003 or 2003A if I need to. If it's older than that I keep it. How do you think all those small portraits ended up in that ATM? There were no large portrait black-and-white twenties, and most of the rest were 2009 and 2013.

A bank teller told me that they refill their ATM when it runs low, and it may include customer deposited bills rather than those from an armored car, and that's how I missed some old 20s back when I got all those 1950 10 and 5 dollar bills. You're right about ones, I see about 75% 2009, 15% 2013, 8% 2006, and the remaining are anything older. Most of the 2003As I see are very worn out, but I think it would be interesting to see what my numbers are, so I'll post that the next time I get some ones from the bank. I think I'll post like this: (in addition to condition list) Pre-2006: 2006: 2009: 2013:
I think that would be a fair way to post since I usually get 1 pre-2006 out of every 20 bills on average.

Good idea. Get a strap and post how many of each you get.
