From the bank teller. I didn't notice it until I tried to spend at a restaurant and they accused me of trying to pass a counterfeit because it doesn't have a security thread! Stupid people.

Wish my BT would pass off old $50s! I'll have to find my old bill, but I think it's a 1950 $10...If I still have it. Got it in college when I was delivering pizzas if I remember right. May have sold it a few years ago with my paper money collection...

Congrats to everyone on their finds!
I used to find the odd silver certificate in change, but not in ten years at least. These days I'm happy to pull a small portrait note out of circulation! So I have a few old fives and tens in an envelope - they're circulated and only worth face value but I like them. To me, the small portrait notes look like "money", the newer notes look like "toys". Sure, I understand the new, anti-counterfeiting technology is absolutely necessary, but boy do I miss the old notes.

Nice Bryan. I always am excited to see a small head note still floating around.

Quote: Nice Bryan. I always am excited to see a small head note still floating around. Thanks. My bank gets quite a few on occasion. I remember a while back they had I think it was a couple of hundred dollars in small portraits but I had to decline them because I couldn't afford to financially take them just to hold onto even though I wanted them. I take all their Kennedy's, dollar coins, $2 bills from them as well. I got all these the other day ($80 worth) when I cashed in my bonus check and went back the next day from another roll of Kennedy's that a teller had but wasn't there.

I suppose that's how people felt back in the '50s when we still had silver coins and silver certs - were they special or were they "just" money...? Then the '60s roll around, silver climbs, and everyone is hoarding them.
