1889 Morgan Dollar Odd Finish Was This Buffed?

Slumberjack New Member United States 21 Posts	Posted 08/16/2010 4:02 pm This seems strangely smooth and glossy to me. It is bright and golden toned. Has lots of detail and relief left. There is one area that looks like it could be damage from a hard felt buffing wheel. Comments, input and speculation OK. Is there any value other than silver content for a coin like this? I have been experimenting with that. this is a bit bigger, I hope. But not the quality I would like. this a 10 meg Pix camera, will see what happens with the 5 meg Having been a goldsmith, I think it was polished and cleaned. a rouge wheel that has been used for Gold can carry some gold toning over to a silver object. In my experience brass was even worse for carrying over. The condition of the date, soft and rounded numbers, makes me think machine polished. Report this Post to the Staff
