Planning on buying my first detector as a beginner and have pretty much decided on the ACE-250 after watching some of their promo's. The price seems right and some of you on the forum have recommended them. But just out of curiosity, I'm wondering how much money is enough to spend? I've seen some of them advertised in the multiple thousands! Is the extra money really worth it? How much more of an advantage does it give you? What extra features? Should I go for the high end and be done with it?

The 250 is a good basic machine but if you stick with MDing you'll outgrow it soon enough. If it fits your budget I'd suggest a Whites MXT Pro. It's easy enought to operate and will work well for you for years.
