I just found this 1871 Indian Head in a roll of Indian's I had set aside a number of years ago. 
What would you grade it at? Also...would you say it was the shallow or bold N? Thanks in advance for any replies.

This is a very nice coin. The reverse is just a little better than the obverse. I would give it an overall grade of AU-50, looks like the bold "N" to me.

OH, you found that coin I lost.   I too agree with the AU-50 at least. I'd dip it in a little Acetone or just distilled water to see if any of that green patina fades away. Otherwise, really nice coin. Appears to be the Bold N variety but regarless, at least a good $600 coin. |

IT is definitely the bold N reverse and will grade out at a minimum of XF-45. $300-$400 dollar coin. That is a really nice find!

Serifs on the N's say it is definitely a Bold N.

I think AU50. Bold Liberty, 4 diamonds clear, feather tips look great. Only minor drawback on an otherwise beauty is the reverse verdigras.

Details all clear & sharp, with only light wear: I'd say AU-50, too. Quite a find!

Congrats !
I cant pick up the diamonds from your pix. I would say strong VF , and depending on how the diamonds look possibly a XF.

They are there, sometimes it is harder to see details depending on how a person has their computer monitor adjusted. Contrast, brightness, etc.
Thanks for all of the replies! As much as I would like to grade this AU, I am giving it a grade of XF. The coin is now sitting in my Type Set 7070 album.  |

The strike looks weak on the feathers, but I see 4 diamonds and that's enough for me to go AU. Absolutely incredible find!

For whatever reason I never knew it was part of that roll. It must have got past me at the time I ended up putting any extra Indian Head cents I had into rolls & set aside.
Keep in mind that this was quite a while ago, about 15 years. Back then I started collecting Nevada casino chips & had not looked at my coin collection again until a couple of weeks ago.
Now I'm back into it with the excitement of someone who has never collected coins before. Even though I collected for a good 15 years before I stopped. I'm now getting reacquainted with my collection!  Edited by Wilbur Clark
