Hi, does anyone know when this coin was sold from RCM in 2009? I never saw it was listed on RCM website or news letter or catalogs, but it was on some dealer's web site. I wonder how it was distributed. Any insight? https://www.colonialacres.com/product-p/108027.htm*** Edited by Staff - Fixed Link ***Edited by jonesdav 09/15/2010 4:49 pm

Sorry I can't provide much information about this coin apart from saying that I've seen a few of them on ebay sell for about $260.00 CDN.

It's a really nice coin....the mint only struck 1534 pieces..it sold out immediately...and now sells for like $300.00..coin dealers/master members snatched this one up quickly...the average Joe coin collector never stood a chance.....

Actually, dealers never had a chance, either. These coins were available EXCLUSIVELY through one dealer in Quebec. And that is mostly the reason for the high price.

> the average Joe coin collector never stood a chance..... I think the mint only released it through a single dealer: http://www.monnaieroyale.com/en/index.aspThey had a full page ad in Canadian Coin News for the offering. I (Joe coin collector) bought three (the limit). Gary

These were ordered and financed by a single owner - I was told when I called to inquire about this coin. I wasn't aware that this was possible.
I think the Mint should have disclosed the release of this particular NCLT production to the general public.
Apparently, you can buy your own money now.

Apparently, you can buy your own money now. There are several cases where a company was provided exclusivity for coins. The Lunar Tiger program was initially only able to be ordered from a particular dealer in Quebec, I believe. It was only after many dealers wanted to be able to carry the coins that the Mint allowed them the ability to carry them. There were other coins issued over the past 2-3 years which had exclusive arrangements made with dealers in Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes I believe. Surprisingly, there have been *NO* exclusive coins issued through J&M, Gatewest, or Colonial Acres. All of these three dealers have access to the same pool of coins.

I follow NCLT pretty closely and I don't recall any prior exclusive releases like that one. By that I mean NOT sold by the Mint and only through a private seller/dealer.

Silver Maples are bullion coins; this one is not. Don't compare the two.

This is a great coin, and the way it was issued was part of the thrill of the hobby!

How the mighty have fallen. One went unsold on ebay at $200. None have been sold there in a very very long time. Hang in there Dcadon, in a couple of years you'll be able to complete your ship collection at a reasonable price.
