Long time no see, Halftober--but here is my 3rd Capped Bust half dollar. This one is truly a low ball(I bought it for $23 about seven years ago)--cleaned, scratched, and the obverse bears a nasty rim ding--but alas, here is the capped bust half:

jfransch I believe your 1826 is O-101 (R-1), it has most of the characteristics for that variety except I can't see any die cracks.

With 49 different varieties for this 1827 and only a slight difference between some of them, it's a bit difficult to tell for sure without having the coin in hand. So from what I can tell this coin is O-106 (R-2). Maybe Moe or Zeewool can see more than I can.

Quote: O-106 (R-2) I think these is a good attribution, Echizento. You're right, many of the 1827s are a tough CBHs to identify. That's nice one jfransch! (And echizento as well!) Thanks for posting!

Can someone explain what square base vs. round base on the 1827 means? Thanks,

Look at the two coins that Moe posted. The first one has a flat or square base 2 and the second has a curved or round base. That's the difference.
