really, someone is culling all the State Quarters? I see the craze with the ATB collectors, but I would think pre state george quarters, will be worth more, then the State Quarters sooner.

so recently I thought I might give quarters a shot...i usually mainly do pennies and nickels and sometimes dimes...so for the past couple weeks or so been through about 6-7 hundred worth and I have not found a single thing worth keeping imo...no silver...no errors that I know of...and I personally dont think the ATB Quarters are worth saving in circulated condition..i mean if there is someone here really wanting those I can by all means save them and trade with them when I get enough posts....but trying not to get off topic....is there anyone on here who only does quarters? and if so what are you searching for...i know there are some nice State Quarter errors worth looking at but I have not seen many on this forum...i dont think ill be continunig with quarters and if I do maybe just a few rolls here and there to try my luck ha

I collect State Quarters. But I am also new to collecting, have mild OCD, and need an excuse to 'invest in something' without it being a part of my 'savings'. The only real reason I am doing it that makes any numismatic sense is I wanna try to do a roll of decent of everything just so I can say I did. If I do I'll probably print up some nice labels on the canisters, take a picture for my archives then sell the whole thing on ebay minimum 560$US+shipping. . Btw, I've done the marking quarters thing. I used sharpies to draw smiley faces on a bunch of quarters I was exchanging with my dad for his pocket change so that if they came back to me through him or another way I knew I had seen them before. But I also know sharpie comes off fairly easily over time and I switched to wanting to collect years/mints too so I am not marking anymore and just gunna exchange/spend the ones I already did. I used to mark them for fun in college because I liked the reactions people gave me when I tried to spend a couple in red green and blue color side up. . Plus I was big into spray paint (legal tagging only) so it was easy to dump a bunch on the floor of my studio, spray em a few colors and let em dry. Wouldnt think it was worth the effort if you have to setup stuff to paint in open air room, drop cloths, take up space. Bet that person has a studio too and just took about 50 cents to a dollar worth of spray paint. Bummer though a collector was the blunt end of that though. If it had gone to a company that needed quarters for vending or something they probably wouldnt have cared or found it amuzing. You know another idea just hit me. Could have been for poker? Though I guess no State Quarters suggests more to the state collecting idea but if someone wanted to do metal chips for poker and didnt wanna do pennies/nickles/dimes they could get a 1000$ in quarters and divy them up and color them for the values. Maybe even decided they didnt wanna spray the states for some reason like it might be 'more illegal' or something lol. . Us being numismatics we immediately assume something like this is numismatic related.

Reading about the spray painted box, this is the frustrating part of CRH for me. There are some things about it that you just can't solve; you can't find out who it is, and contact them, or even avoid their banks.
It's like a giant blind spot. And you can't really talk to the fed banks or couriers; my last 9-12 boxes (halves) have been pretty obviously dumps. If I could find this person or persons, I could avoid them. But I can't compete with these large buyers, who dump tons of coins into the system, faster than I'm taking them out.

agreed 100% bernie as you read on the half dollar forum, my last 18 boxes not counting todays has basically been the same thing, I'm shocked to see quarters marked, never thought I would see that todays box of quarters contained no silver and strangely very few ATB's as well
