I've been working one set since 1975, my 7070 set, and it is far from being completed (constantly upgrading instead of expanding)

Thanks for all the responses! It's good to hear what everyone else is into. Now I don't feel so weird for working on multiple sets at once. I have circulated sets complete of most modern coins of every denomination that I've been working on for 10+ years. I also have a slew of pre-1965 silver coins and have been trying to get my silver proof sets completed from 1999-present. But I now plan on upgrading most of my modern sets to uncirculated.
I'm also into the copper penny hoarding. Can't seem to get myself to turn them into the bank when they are worth double face value.

I tend to work on a whole bunch of sets at a time. I am a new collector, so most is from circulation (but its a start).

Quote: Do you think that it may be too ambitious to tackle all modern coin sets from all denominations at once? I've been doing that recently but I don't want any one collection to suffer because of that. I'm working on all modern coin sets from all denominations right now. And it's a major PITA. I wish I would have picked one to start with and then moved on to the next. I've got all of the modern Washingtons and Roosevelts (1965+), SBAs, almost all of the modern Lincolns, Jeffersons,, Kennedies, Ikes, SBA, Sacs, Pressies. However, shortly after finishing my Washingtons and Roosevelts, I've decided I don't want coins from circulation. So.... slowly but surely making my way through all of the modern coins in uncirculated condition. Once I have them sorted, then I'll pick ONE series at a time, and ONE series only.

The only modern series that I need to finish is the Lincoln Cent (down to the key dates). Everything else is up-to-date. I did not finish overnight, but it was definitely a fun journey. You may find yourself at times concentrating on one denomination over the others, but there is nothing wrong with that.

The only actual set I'm trying to put together right now is an IHC set. I'm trying to get basically as high of a grade I can afford, so it will take some time. I feel if I try to complete other sets, I will be taking resources and attention away from this set. Also, while doing this, I am trying to learn as much about IHCs as possible. I feel by working on 1 set at a time, I can fully immerse my self in the coins, history, variations, grading and characteristics. Now, I do also keep a look out for other coins I may like to get. They are just random coins I find/here about and decide to pick one up. For example, 1939 DDR Jefferson nickel, 1950d nickel, 1996w dime, some ASEs etc.

Working on lincoln wheats (couple left),franklins (Half a dozen left),kennedy's (could get done if I got serious) buffalo's(getting pricey),indian head cents (just starting) and just for kicks I just picked up the walker albums (ouch). Oh yeah my rooseys need a few more also. I think I have a problem with finishing sets! My favorite place to buy is here and (less and less)ebay. I only get to go to a couple shows a year.

Still having trouble focusing; I am working on about 10 sets, 5 pretty actively (Ike, Kennedy, Franklin, Wheats, Morgans). My problem is that I have never seen a coin I didnt like and think I needed to own. Oh yea, gradually working on a 7070. I need one to complete my mercs, can you guess which one? I made a big mistake a couple of months ago, I purchased Dansco's for some of my coins that I was not actively collecting (Walkers, Sacos, Standing Lib's). Well, now I see all of those empty holes and get the itch.

LOL ..... recognize me in all of your replies. We seem to suffer from the same passion. Soooo ..... for me .... a few sets I'm now working on ... I am twelve coins short of a complete 50-coin Type set of US Classic Silver Commemorative in PCGS MS64+. What a great thrill this set is! My complementary set is a circulated 50-coin type set ...... very difficult to even find the coins ..... now have 23 of 50. I'm also working on a Dansco 7111 Liberty nickels ...... goal is XF40 to AU55 coins ..... now have 11 of 33. Those who have been here awhile recognize that I am a Nickel roll searcher ..... and I am also working on a roll-find set of circulation strike Jefferson 1938-2010 ...... still need two coins. Sooooo .... for me .. four sets at this time. David

I've noticed alot of the mint sets from 60s-90s can be purchased for around $4-5 each on ebay (including both p&d!) which is just over face value - a great deal in my estimation. But then I have the problem of trying to work on all sets simultaneously again. Either that or I'll just start with Lincoln memorials and work my way from there. AC

The only actual sets I actively collect are State Quarters and America the Beautiful Quarters. Everything else is usually just things that I see that I like and decide I want to buy it, or else interesting coins from circulation; mostly looking for silver and any classic coins not usually found in circulation.
