I think like most members here, that you are really never done with a set. You can fill all the holes ... but if better condition coins came along most of us would upgrade. I have 25 Dansco albums about half of them are filled, and some are close. I do try to focus on certain sets ... but you can miss some good buys if your not checking out all the available coins.
I do most of my buying from local coin shops, I always have to ask what new coins have come in, or what they are looking to get rid of. So ... if a nice bunch of type coins come in .. I am working on my type set. If some nice Franklin's walked in the door .. I am buying half dollars ..

That is the normal problem with this hobby. Actually most hobbies. Even if you are into old cars, there is always a way to make yours a little better. With coins you can try making a set really high grades but it always seams to be one more coin that could be improved upon. Every time I go to a coin show I have a list of coins in Albums that could, might, sort of could use a better replacement. And yet I have to make that list over and over and over since there is always room for improvements.

Call me the exception! Once a coin goes in, it stays there. Some have been in their place over 25 years now, so I am very sentimentally attached to them.

I only have one collection complete, thats Franklins. I have alot of uncompleted ones. Ikes Kennedys SLQ The Never Ending Morgans Peace dollarsMy problem is there are so many coins that I like that I have a hard time concentrating on just one type. I can get sidetracked pretty easy.

I mostly work on Mercury dimes for my set, but I have about two other I play with during my searching.

I currently have six active sets and one semi-active set. Of the active, I have the Presidential and Native American dollars, and the Lincoln Shield cent complete, with the exceptions of the ones yet to be released. Then I am really working on Mercury dimes, Liberty nickels and Indian Head cents. The semi-active set is my Lincoln Wheat cents. Just need the keys to complete. I have four complete sets, the Eisenhower and Sacagawea dollars, the Washington "State" quarters, and the Lincoln Memorial cents. These I got mostly through roll searching. I also have the complete set for the Jefferson "Westward Journey" nickel and the Lincoln "Bicentennial" cent that I got from ebay and the U.S. Mint. As far as how I obtain my coins, first would probably be ebay with a close second to my local dealer (He doesn't have Liberty nickels. He says "Nobody collects those" I say "Hello, I'm standing right here!") So the dealer doesn't get as many trips as he used to get. I've also purchased rolls and proofs from the Mint. And I do roll search still, every now and then, but I have been limiting that to only cents, which I currently have two boxes to go through. I have been keeping the Canadian cents I find and do have a set of those going too, if you want to count it. Now what I shop for, mostly depends on the budget. If life is good I shop for the keys, if not, then I shop for the commons. And when it's tough, I roll search. I better get to those two boxes.

I'm just getting started in this with a Roosevelt album but while starting to check all my accumulated change (approx $150.00 various denominations) for errors I'm finding some fine specimens of old copper and 40's up nickels and older quarters in decent shape. I'm thinking I need to get a quarter, nickel and cent album too. this is addicting.

I work on every regular issue series simultaneously. In order to fill these holes, I have several methods: Buying collections at wholesale works well. I can take what I need (or upgrade) and trade or sell the rest. I browse ebay and submit lowball bids all over the place. I usually win about 1 in 20 auctions but that means that I got a great deal on that one coin. By studying coin prices over and over, I get to know the coins that are worth money. I look in junk bins in coin dealer shops to find great deals. Finally, the rare ones have to come from dealers or collectors for big bucks.
