How does one tell if the $2 coin has been made with the German one piece planchet or the Canadian two piece planchet?

I expect the RCM ordered the planchets to very tight specifications. I've haven't read that the German ones differed from the Canadian ones in weight (officially 7.3 grams), and I doubt they would be because of the nightmare launch that would have meant to the vending industry. They don't release test tokens for no reason.

What I have read is that a slight difference between the look of the finish on two planchets, which apparently is very difficult to determine below an MS-63 state.

I just received a very sensitive scale for measuring coins. I got weights of from 7.23 to 7.41 grams. These were all 1996 twoonies. I also weighed other years of twoonies and they were in this range. Anyway, somehow a way will come up.

Burnishing, as well. Canadian coins look oily in comparison. Hard to tell lower than ms 63.

There is not supposed to be any difference in weight. The specificatios are supposed to be the same.The 2 dollar coin struck from a Canadian planchet (315,483,000) has a shiny, polished finish. The 2 dollar coin struck from the German planchet (60,000,000) has a dull, matte-like finish. Identification of the 2 varieties is difficult at best for uncirculated coins and almost impossible for circulated coins.
