So my regular login is kelanies. My account was recently suspended while the forum moderator investigated my use of the forum email to solicit sales. I did indeed send two emails to a two people who stated they needed proof cents to finish their collections. I didn't realize that I couldn't send an email, apparently one of the guys who responded didn't either as he bought several from me.

So at any rate I've apologized to the moderators profusely, admitted what I did and asked to be let back on. 5 emails and 4 days later they still won't reply.

You can see from my posts that I have a sincere interest in coins and I thought I was materially contributing, especially to the grading forums.

Please let me know any tips to get back on the Moderator's good graces, I never meant to offend!
Rest in Peace

PLS, for sure! The fact was that I did read them and it must not have clicked. That is what I was hoping the apology would accomplish.

You sure you read them?

Violations of the forum rules may result in sanctions against a member. These sanctions can range from a suspension of a length to be determined by the Staff, to banning from the site. Sanction severity will vary based on many different factors and each incident will be reviewed on its own. Discussing sanctions against a member on the forum is strictly prohibited and will be dealt with swiftly and severely. Registering under a different user name to circumvent a suspension may result in permanent banning from the site.

I don't think you did.

What the moderators see from your posts is you made 50 posts in 36 hours, and on 12/5 you made dozens of quick short posts in the grading forum, several per minute at points, just so you could use the email system to solicit. After I got the first report and trudged through the logs for a half hour I find the timestamp on your first email was 35 seconds after your 50th post.

Then what do you do? Register another account (blatantly against the rules you now claim to have read), bring up the infraction publicly (blatantly against the rules you now claim to have read), and take a shot at me to boot (5 emails and 4 days later they still won't reply). You're right, I don't answer every begging email when the reason has already been clearly stated once.

So my opinion here, if I had the inclination to trudge more through the logs I'd bet a Buffalo nickel you sent a lot more than two emails and you're not sorry you did it, you're sorry you got caught.

Circumventing? That's not what's going on. He's not hiding the fact.

Its people that make comments like that, that as soon as these new members we let get by on the rules, send them a email to sell them something and they bite and pay and then never hear from them again come here to cry to us on why we didn't protect them from these unscrupulous individuals joining our little community and use the forums email system to send emails soliciting sales. This guy made just enough posts to be able to use the email system and then as soon as he did he sent emails to people trying to sell them something. Why? because he knew he didn't have enough posts to sell on the forum so he figured he could get by with private emails and moderators wouldn't know.

You are right,he is open about trying to circumvent the rules to get around the ban on his first nick. Does that make it alright? He isn't hiding the fact that he says he read the rules but still went against them and made another nick to get around the ban on his first nick which is against the rules he now states he understands. So its like yeah I read the rules but in your face I can still do what I want and not follow the rules you have posted because they surely do not apply to me in my situation

Providing this type of forum to this many members is an extra large, never ending, and mostly thankless task. The rules are in place in an attempt to protect what the administrators and mods have tried to put in place for everyone. When registering, one is required to read these rules and agree to abide by them. If one cannot read with comprehension, then coin collecting is probably not for that someone to begin with... except maybe if they're here to admire the pretty pictures.

Many of us have seen other forums where (a) the rules are more lax, (b) there were no rules at all (all hail snarky newsgroups!), or (c) the admins/mods applied the rules unevenly according to who they liked. None of the above applies here and that is why a lot of us ARE here.

Also bear in mind that an honest mistake will show as one. Mods and Admins have access to a lot more who-did-what-to-whom-and-when information just from site logs, and they have no reason to bar a member who is honestly contributing.

Are you saying you think I would break the rules and buy from an unqualified member?

Definitely not saying that, its just if we didn't enforce the rules to everyone equally it would be someone that would would come to someones defense like you did above for someone else making a mistake that would be one of the people who would be asking us why we didn't protect them if they got scammed (believe me it has happened before no matter how hard we try to protect our members). I know I never even look to see how long someone has been on the forum when I get a email from the forums email system and doubt very many others do as well (from this guys own admission at least one person purchased from him). If I get a email through the forum I just take it for granted they have been around long enough to do so so they are pretty much safe to deal with but as we see this one got by us rather quickly because in a matter of seconds after reaching the correct amount of posts started emailing members to sell

I'm not saying they didn't make a mistake. I'm saying banning them seems too harsh.

A suspension for 30 or 60 days seems appropriate in this case. Ban if the problem recurs.

They weren't going to be banned. But then they re-registered and ignored several rules again while claiming to have read them. That, combined with the deliberate abuse already committed (which was obvious from the tools available to the Staff), made the choice easy.
