so, I would also suspect when buying original bank rolls the 1955 cent, would you have that 100% chance of really finding a 1955 DDO, or would you think people selling the OBW rolls would have looked through them? I know it would be hard for me to not look through an OBW of 1955's... so, what would a roll go for of 1955 OBW. greysheet?

Hey SD! A roll of 1955 cents should go for about 20 dollars. I found a listing for rolls in the December 2010 "COINage" magazine. Oh....I also wanted to tell you something funny I saw in there too....here we go again....LOL...a guy wrote in the "readers letters"....that he found a 1974-D aluminum Lincoln Cent!! and its in excellant condition! geez!

I read that the 55 DDO was found often as the change in a package of cigarettes from a vending machine. This suggests to me a highly localized distribution. Maybe some more research on the subject could help narrow your search to buying rolls only from the same region of the US. Just a thought.

pinenut, one of the 55 ebay listings mentioned that "chase bank manhatten" was where the DDO's originated? like you said, a localized distribution.. not sure where the 55 ddos were found, and not sure if this guy is just making his sale more attractive..

you would think that any OBW of 1955 surfaced or were for sale, that they would be really TRULY unsearched?

I remember reading that the 1955 cents were sent in packs of cigarettes to Europe (some country over there, Britain I think) because a pack cost 23 cents. When you got the cigarettes, you would also get 2 1955 cents, or any other pennies they sent over there. Supposedly, they began finding 1955 DDO over there. I don't know if the source I got that from was right, so I wouldn't completely believe everything I just typed.

Personally, I'd be VERY skeptical of any 1955 OBW roll. More than likely it's been either rewrapped or carefully opened and "resealed". Who the heck is going to risk losing a coin worth thousands on a $20 sale? I submit....NOBODY.

A true OBW roll can never have been searched, so there is chance of finding a DDO, no matter how insignificant or slim that chance is.

It's kind of like Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dummber when the chick says she'd never date him....anyone remember that? "Oh, so there IS a chance". LOLOLOL However, you'd be surprized at how adept people at opening and resealing them. I contend they are far too lucrative and no unopened 1955 OBW rolls exist anymore.
