Happy New Year,
I just received this coin and would like your opinion and whether or not I should submit it to a grading service, Thanks, Ed

Close up pic's would be real nice if you can,Looks MS but need better pic's for an accurate assessment.. The other thing is the intial cost of the coin and add about$45 bucks for shipping and insurance both ways and grading fee's ..That may put it over the value of your investment, but those numbers you can decide, its a nice year!

The abrasions and color change on Liberty's cheek, eyebrow, and jaw tell me this coin has been lightly circulated. The abrasions might lead a grading service to label this coin as "cleaned". Assuming the abrasions are judged to be from circulation rather than abusive handling, the coin should grade AU-55 or AU-58.

This is a pricey coin in higher grades and if you can get it into a no-problem PCGS, NGC, or ANACS holder it would be easier to sell if that is your goal. If they label it as cleaned it will be worth less but will still be attractive as a genuine example of this scarce date. So, spending money on a TPG could be a good investment.

Yeah, it looks like Liberty's face has some almost scrape-like rub on her cheeks; though the rest of the coin basically looks lusterous and uncirculated. I agree with Jaobler at AU-55/58.

Thank you guys, I paid 160 for it, maybe a little high but I think I'll make out ok with it and will send it to Anacs for grading later on and for now it stays with my collection, Ed

Welcome, enjoy the Forum. Hey, high retail is 200 to 250. If it is AU58, a hundred and sixty bucks is a decent price.

The lady really "took it" on the nose and cheek while the eagle got away pretty clean. Still a great coin.

AU-58 but the abrasions on the cheek would probably take it down to AU-53 or AU-55 price
