I also canceled my mint set of the 2011 5 oz coin, no way I am paying $54 an once right now.

You may or may not regret this. This is still considered a numismatic item with a mintage of only 27k. Last one I seen on ebay was bidding over $400.00, with these lower silver prices.

It's the $629.99 A-Mark set that is looking highly unsupportable now, even with the extra $18 FS designation, when Gainsville wire price is $206.44 each currently.

You cannot go by the wire price. Unless you're planning on spending the $2000.00 minimum for a bank wire while ordering them. Provident has the best price, as you can save the money by sending a check or money order without a minimum purchase amount.

I did cancel my A-Mark order for the 2011 2-pc slabbed set. At $48 silver a week ago that price could be justified (especially with Credit Card orders) but at $36 I can't do it.

Fortunately A-Mark is gracious about accepting cancellations. : )

And yes, the numismatic version of the 2010 Hot Springs coin still looks fine to me at $285.

Good read on ATB 5oz coins

Quote:
Late last year the U.S. Mint announced that the mintages of the 2010 bullion versions of the five ounce America the Beautiful ( ATB) silver coins would be limited to 33,000 of each issue, which is an extremely low number for a bullion coin.

All well and good, but calling something a "bullion coin" is no guarantee that coin collectors are going to consider it to be a "must have" item for their coin collection.

A significant % of buyers are not collecting these at all. They're either taking advantage of being able to buy them for less than scrap value, gambling for high TPG grades, or hoping to flip them for a substantial profit.

There are only two ways to make money on these, higher silver prices or genuine collector interest. While 33,000 doesn't sound like many, how many collectors (end purchasers) are going to try to assemble a complete set of coins that's likely to cost over $10,000, even as bullion?

I look for true collector demand to be closer to that of a series of medals than a series of coins. If that's the case, 33,000 is a huge quantity.
Rest in Peace

And if collectors are serious about assembling this $10,000+ set, don't you figure they will buy them direct, as opposed to in the secondary market?

The numismatic versions of the ATB coins have their own pros and cons. The obvious advantage of the numismatic versions is that they will be scarcer. Fewer will be issued than their bullion counterparts, although so far we only know the 2010 coins will have a mintage limited to 27,000.

I pulled trigger on the 2011's from Gainsville Coin. Gettysburg cost me (credit card cost) $209.94 and Glaicer cost me $210.22 (the difference in $ was because I had already put G'burg in my cart and then got caught up in my "real job", and by the time I got back to put Glacier in my cart the price had gone up. I was also able to use the $5.00 off promo code (NIAUS).

I am not surprised that folks are cancelling the 2010 P Hot springs (mints version). Looks like a lot of folks got spooked by the price drop in silver VS numismatic coins.

The 2011 - Are all the online folks shipping it in some type of air tite / sealed unit etc? Thanks

I saw some pics of the HS P Puck and it looks impressive...not thrilled with the HS design but the different finish makes it a keeper...
