The word kopek, kopeck, copeck, or kopeyka (in Russian: копейка, kopeyka) derives from the Russian kop'yo (копьÑ') -- a spear.
Three Countries: 1) Abkhazia (declared its independence in 1992 and is currently recognized by four UN member states (Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Nauru)). 2) Russian Federation (UN member). 3) South Ossetia (declared its independence in 1991 and is currently recognized by four UN member states (Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Nauru)),
Respective Coins: Russian Ruble 1/100 of "ruble" = 1 "kopejka". Freq. used 10, 50 kopeks, 1, 2, 5, 10 rubles Rarely used 1, 5 kopeks
There are now (September 2000) in circulation: • Change coins: 1, 5 kop. (white metal), 10, 50 kop. (yellow metal), 1, 2, 5 rub. (white metal) • Banknotes: 5, 10, 50, 100, 500 rub.

BTW, last time I was in Russia, I haven't seen any 1 Kopicka coins in circulation and prices are being slowly rounded up to the next .10r, (10 Kopeek). I haven't even found one 5 Kopeek 2009/2010 in circulation either but a fellow Russian collector told me he has seen some 2009 5 Kopeeks. 1 Kopicka has almost no value at all. I usually see people dropping Kopeek (1,5,10,50..) coins and didn't bother to pick them up from the ground. I being a shameless collector, picked all I found. :) I hereby apology from all good people and residents of Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and Omsk for disturbing them on public areas, parks, electrika, etc. in order to pick coins from the grounf. Russia, so far, is the best place next to the UK, for finding coins on the ground. :)

I heard on the (Russian) news that they are considering withdrawing all change below ruble from circulation, many stores and even banks refuse to take them at all, from a handful to a jarful. People don't know what to do with their coins.

I have another answer ready, so I'd prefer if you wait until 11:05 to post a hint.

Wouldn't you want to compare you r pending answer against the hint? If it agrees with the hint you could immediately post the answer, if it disagrees - not waste the answer. I promise, my hint is not going to take all the mystery off the question! Edit in red, I was leaving letters out!
