That is the auction...I hope it goes for more...we will see on Sunday...If it doesn't hit the reserve then I keep it. 1st day of the auction someone offered me $1700 to take it down and sell to them...it was very hard to say no thanks.

That is absolutely amazing, I never would have dreamed that anyone would see such value in this..... It sounds like you would rather keep them yourself, so I don't know whether to hope for a sale or not..... maybe this is sort of a 'make me an offer I can't refuse' type of thing?

not sure what that reserve is but I think I would take what ever its at right now myself, or if it didn't meet the Reserve contact the one that offered the 1700 and give him a 200.00 discount if he still wants them

I wouldn't do that. The people who really want that strap are waiting patiently to snipe it with a few seconds left. I RARELY bid an auction if I really want it.

Edit: To further elaborate on what I just said, the person who offered $1700 for it obviously thinks it may well go for more. It's very possible no more bids will even happen until about a minute or so before it ends. How many people are watching that auction? Bet it's double digits. I understand that people here are watching it so not everyone is a potential buyer. But... 10 seconds left that price is going to go up. What's the worst that can happen? The reserve is not met and you still have it. If you really need the money then you do what you have to do, but if not you can afford to be patient.

Agree with Bryan - $1,700 was a "really" good price / offer for that strap as it was un graded (my 2 cents).

Then again it "could" go higher on this auction IF there are "personal collectors" in the bidding process along with the person who offered making a bid. Most currency dealers will not chase it after a particular price point(12 / 14 area). I was going to bid something at the close (price already higher than my max) so I am out....lol

Best to you on the auction.

I totally agree that $1700 was a really good price and was surprised you turned it down. A while back I was contacted by someone who had a BEP wrapped brick of ones with a solid in it. He told me he was offered $2200 for just the strap with the solid in it. I can't say for sure if that was true since I didn't personally know this individual.

I don't get it -- not that the find wasn't cool, but why on earth are solid serial #s worth so much? Just the novelty?

Trust me the $1700 was very hard to turn down, but I figured if someone wanted to throw that cash at me right away it was worth it to wait it out and see what it goes for. There are indeed double digit watchers on the item. I dont need the money...it only costs me $100 to hold it...but if I get the right price I will let it go. So we shall see what happens tomorrow night.

You know, it's such a shame that the block letter wasn't an "F" on these. If so it would have been district 6 66666666 6th block...

Bubbles grow, and then they burst..... who is to say that what is worth $2000 today will be worth even half of that in 10 or 15 years? There are a good many examples of numismatic investments that have gone south..... I am rather hoping that your reserve is met solid6s.... otherwise, the gamble only continues...... A strap such as this is by no means rare..... neat, but certainly not rare.... a profit margin of 20 to 1 is an enviable thing.... but what price does a person put on neat? They still make these things.... at an ever increasing rate.
