That was an awesome box. I still haven't found a KGV yet. Very jealous.

It took me 18 boxes to get my first. I guess it all depends on who has cleaned out their penny hoards on the day you go to the bank. I'm pretty confident all these rolls were from one customer. After a while you get a feel for pennies having a certain look or relative rarity, and then you get a box like this where both the look of the coins and the distribution is way off. I'm sure you'll get you first KGV from CRH if you keep looking.

I'm getting a box today, you may have inspired me to get two now...especially with time ticking on the penny. This will be a fair bit of pennies tho. I didn't keep track but I'm sure after this weekend it will be 10 cases at least.

I think we'll be able to get pennies from banks until the majority of retailers stop accepting them and begin to round to the nearest nickel. The tellers at my bank say they are seeing an increase in customers cashing in pennies compared to previous years, presumably because they have stopped minting them. I also picked up a box in advance of the weekend to keep me going :)

Still no George V's but, got a 40, 41, 42, 43, 46, 50 and 51 x 2. I think that's a personal best for number of KGVI's. Hopefullyy get the KGV in two weeks when I do my next box.

Eight KGVI pennies in one box is well above my 18-box average of 4.6. Nice! The only KGVI date-penny I haven't found roll hunting: 1944.

I should probably do a better job of keeping track of my stats, but I'm sure it's line with yours. I sometimes get more wheaties than KGVIs...I'd have to double check to see if I found a 44 yet...is it rare?

I don't have the figures with me right now, but I think the low mintage years for KGVI pennies are 1938, 1944, and 1948. I find almost as many wheaties as KGVI (4.1/box). Yeah, it's fun to see how that stats break down. Here's my current distribution of KGVI pennies found from CRH:

Hi Laureate
I just checked the figures and the 3 lowest KGVI minatages are 1937, 1938, and 1939, followed by 1948 and then 1949. 1944 comes in 6th. Your finds as seen on your chart more or less follow this pattern, though that goose-egg on 1944 seems weird! I do notice that 1944 in high grade is quite a bit more expensive though - it was the last I managed to get in anything decent -- so maybe there is something to the fact that the mintage figures can't be taken at face value after all these years. Have they been melted down or in some other way removed from circulation? Dunno, but it's food for thought. However I have great faith that at least one will come your way, and then they probably won't stop after that!

lol. I know what you mean, Canadapenny. I bought four rolls from a dealer for face value a couple of weeks back and while the most of them were 1950's and 1960's (which is good), about 3/4 of them were 1957's and 1959's! All in worn shape, and nary a variety did I see. And no '53's, or '54's, or even any '55's. I realize that he was just getting rid of some old stuff laying around the shop but it was weird that there were so many of just those 2 years.

I posted this a while ago but I thought I would share it in here. This was the first box I ever roll hunted. From left to right those piles are 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s. A lot of nice uncirculated even maybe some MS 1960s and 70s coins: 1929: After sorting through I found: 18x 1947 Maple Leaf Blunt 7 17x 1947 Maple Leaf Sharp 7 6x 1948 A off Denticles 11x 1948 A to Denticles 14x 1949 A off Denticles 1x 1949 A to Denticles, seen here http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/../1949a2d.png5x 1953 SF Lots of 1953 NSFs, 1954 SFs and 1955 SFs, unfortunately no 1954 or 1955 NSF :( Just thought it might inspire some fellow hunters :P

No wonder you got hooked on CRH with a first box like that. It's always a plus when your 1940s pile is bigger than your 1970s!

LaureateBust, I have never found a 1944 George VI penny either. I have a pile of 1940 and 1941, two 1938, 3 1939 but no 1944 or 1937.
