After years of searching (more than $10,000 searched), it happened this morning. I have found many V nickels. Rolls of War Nickels, a couple rolls of Buffalo nickels, 4 rolls of 2009s, but never a 50d. Although not great, this guy was found in a customer wrapped. THe stats lesson here is that in the same roll was a 44d (war) and a 2009P. Go figure out that probability! Any thoughts on grade? Value?

LeoS: I'm glad you finally found one roll searching!
I don't know if it is my computer or the pics, but the reverse almost looks like it is real dull. Like someone put some acid on it or something. Does it look this way in hand?

Yay! Congrats! After searching around 2K in nickels, I'm still waiting for my first 1950-D. I've found just about everything else; errors, Wars, Buffs, Libertys, most of the semi-keys, but never a 1950-D. The pics are a bit blurry, but the coin looks to be around F-15 or so. In this condition, I would pay around $5; however to you, its priceless! Way to go!

Yes....more fruit! High grade circulated coin - awesome! The reality for Jeff's are that they are relatively inexpensive coins. Without looking at a Red Book probably $20-30 in EF condition I think. Getting it for a nickel is the bomb though! Folks here show some amazing face value finds and yours is no exception. Enjoy!

I found a 1950-D about 20 boxes in and put it aside in a pre 1960 bunch I was accumulating. When I decided I did not need them any more I put that bad boy back into the wild by accident and have not found it since. I am at about box 70 now.

Carlos: maybe the one I found is the one you returned to the wild! Man, I hope that never happens to me.

Yes I hope not. At that time I was mostly on a silver hunt. I was less educated as I am now about what to look for. It wont happen again.

Rackster, you're thinking of the '39d, which is in the 20s for XF, while 20 bucks will by an MS63/4 of 50d. They're easily confused. The 39d is more valuable in higher grades. Even wackier, the '39d in ms66 w/FS is less than a grand, while the lowly 64d W/similar characteristics, is over 7K.
Leo, the stats are about right for 100 boxes, although I still fail to the the praise of an '09, they are plentiful here. (Id) I'd pay 5 all day, as it is worth abit more. My expieriece is that luck runs in cycles, so it'll be time for at least a semi, sometime soon. Anywho, congrats!

Thanks fioti - you are probably right. I'm missing the '39D for now so that number might be in mind for that reason. I also have an AU 1950D I snagged at some point 30 years ago. Might be Unc but I got it out of a roll so I'm less inclined to label it as such. It could be that the figure was from that too. Funny how a number can creep into your psyche like that. Hopefully the '39D I find is top shelf quality and acquired for a nickel.
