http://www.theprovince.com/sports/s...2/story.htmlFrom the article: A Chilliwack man was punched, stabbed and tied up by homeinvading thieves who made off with his life savings in silver bars. The two thugs, wearing what he described as fake police uniforms, unloaded his vault and spirited away $750,000 in silver the man had bought as an investment last year. So sad and hopefully they catch the theives. Might be best for those that keep a collection to keep tight lips. With that note, I have a safe, but its pretty obvious. Anyone have ideas of better hiding places for bullion or their coins?

Man that is too bad. It is sad that you have to be wary of that but unfortunately anybody who keeps that kind of money/jewels/precious metals around their house is not a very wise person. To have that kind of money around your house and also to have that kind of money tied up in a single asset is ludacris, but obviously that is not the point here. It is important to keep what you have ni a safe place and be smart about it.

What is the best safest place, safety deposit box perhaps?
That is a scary situation, and as much as I by nature wanna help people, and get them to understand the positives in this coin collection or bullion investing, best to just keep your bus to yourself in this day an age. Even if you just share the info with trusted people, perhaps they accidentally mention something about you and your situation unknowingly to where some one who is not so trusting hears, and then the next thing you know your robbed by an acquaintance as opposed to a friend....

I was thinking Safety Deposit box, but I rather have it somewhere close to me. I think the best thing to do is have a dummy safe, with stuff you dont' mind losing, and a REAL "safe" that is hidden and only known to yourself, not even your spouse!
Someone had a really good idea of using a pvc tubing to store their bullion rounds, and then sticking it onto existing plumbing. Might have to give that one a try.
Aside from that, a security system, and even security cameras can't hurt.

I agree Vinnycoin, I feel safer having it in my own secret spot, and you can't go wrong with one of those 4 camera sets, with the lab top you can watch you house from around the world, see a crook on property live, and have the cops there before he can finish, lol. Plus crooks have limited time, they are not going to look in certain areas for obvious reasons, or time....
How about a simple trap door on the bottom of a clothe hamper. Who is gonna dig through dirty laundry in the hopes of finding something?

holy cow, the guy had 3/4 of a million dollars laying around in silver bullion at his house.
I'm flabbergasted.
I do agree with the loose lips thing though. But $750,000.00 worth of silver sitting in the house is a lot of rounds & bars. The perps must have had a big truck and a lot of time.

I've had a safe deposit box for 6 years now, never had a problem or worry. Having that much physical silver in your house is just plain foolish. I mean, yes have some physical silver but I also have the ETF, SLV. Safer.

I have to agree that kind of money in a house isa bit extreme. If I knew I had 3/4 a million I would definitely have the best security system in my home!

Awful, but very real. As times get tougher, thieves get bolder. Watch not only what you say but who you say it to. Good topic.
