I found a dealer who hadn't increased his prices on his slow-moving silver coins and this coin was mine for just $5. It has a very nice original look and no problems that I see. According to Wikipedia it is 72% silver with a total silver content of 12 grams; does that sound correct?

With the remaining luster and sharp detail I'd call it AU-50 based on my US coin grading standards. How would you all grade it?

Very good Buy Jaobler! It is definitely better than a EF-45, might clock a AU 50 too.

That pond is fished out. The gentleman also had a 1953 Cinco Pesos coin in AU (27-7/9 grams of 0.720 silver) and a 1956 Diez Pesos in XF (28.888 grams of 0.900 silver) which cost me $5 and $4, respectively. That was the end of this silver hoard.

Awesome deals! That's the way to go, I always focus on Mexican silver when I go to coin shows and shops. The odds of picking something up at less then melt prices are good.
