The 1920 is a common date in AU which is the grade I would assign to this coin. Common circulated St. Gaudens $20 coins are selling for $50 to $100 over "melt" at my local shop which would place the value at about $1500.

I concur on the $50 or so over melt estimate. An NGC MS-62 failed to sell a few days ago at $1700, so $1500 sounds right.

make sure its real. I rarely trust any expensive coin that is not slabbed due to fakes.

Just sharing some unsolicited advice, but I would go for a certified MS-63 St. Gaudens over an AU any day given how close they are in price right now. The MS-63 will better hold its value if/when the price of gold falls again (which I believe it will).
