1978-D-Penny-Double-Mint-Mark-Or-Die-Fill?

I got this penny from change the other day. Is this a double mint mark or a die fill? It looks like a small D over a larger D. Thanks for any help.

Cool Cent! It looks like there's something funky going on with the 8 as well. I'm just starting out so I'm looking forward to seeing what the experts say.

Die crack on the 19. Machine Doubling on 8 and mint mark. Way to tell? The flat shelf like damage from die movement. A dead give away? The date and mint mark show the same direction of Machine Doubling damage. Sorry. Keep looking.

1978-D-Penny-Double-Mint-Mark-Or-Die-Fill?

I was looking at the picture and penny again. I retook a picture of the penny again and apparently there isn't no die crack as mentioned above by two different members, apparently the "die crack" was nothing but a piece of fuzz or some forgien object. So I am guessing I have nothing more then a MD penny.

It's Machine Doubling.

Machine Doubling on a mintmark will 'take-up' some of the nomral shape and size of the mintmark as is the case with this coin. A true repunched mintmark will have one completely normal mintmark with 'extra' around it.
