You're almost going to have to use advanced search after this starts to try to narrow the search down. It's going to be out of hand IMO.

I don't think this change is going to last. I predict the volume of listings is going to more than triple, mostly with garbage at unreasonable prices. Eventually, shoppers are going to complain heavily that there's too much junk. Simple window shopping will become nearly worthless. I sometimes just randomly look around ebay and that is going to be painful when a single seller lists 50 different items in one category just a few seconds apart...i.e. Turbolister. Now, imagine 100 sellers, all selling over-priced crap, all with 50 listings seconds apart and all in a row time-wise. This will be 5000 auctions/BIN of garbage in a row. If you select the max of 200 listings per page, you'll have to go through 25 junk pages to get to the poor guy that has just one item listed at a reasonable start price. FINDING THE LITTLE GUY (usually the best deals) IS GOING TO GET TOUGH.

Yeah you know it's bad when the number of E-Bay search hits exceeds the mintage of the coin in question! 4 days away...

Funny thing is, I think ebay is going to look at the rise in the number of listings, and give itself a pat on the back.

and if I am not mistaken its just for the first 25 listings so that doesn't mean every member can list a million coins with no listing fee's so its just 25 coins each month if I remember correctly

Edit: I just read the email again and its 50 items a month

Quote:
Starting April 19, you'll be able to list your items Auction-style FREE, at any start price, up to 50 listings a month. Plus you can add the Buy It Now option to these listings FREE to grab buyers in a hurry. Set the price you want and sell it fast! This is not a limited-time special but a change in ebay Standard fees to help you list more for FREE all the time--even those high ticket items! Pay only if your item sells.

I have some duplicates I am planning on listing on the 19th, was going to list them earlier but decided I would just wait until this new plan came into effect

More listings will be free, but they've quietly raised the maximum FVF.

I don't see this as a problem at all, in fact, I expect to stumble across some items that are mis-priced on the low side. Then again, I'm typically looking for something specific, like a 1917 Type 1 SLQ now, so I'm usually on the advanced search side. I just doubt 500 garbage listings are going to appear for that.

If they report a huge listings increase in their second quarter earnings report, I think it will be very difficult for them to reverse course, unless there's a way to have increased profitability accompany the reversal.

ebay is now getting a % of shipping costs. They say that it will promote free shipping for buyers. the post office isn't supplying me free shipping materials and or free shipping to my buyers. I am not making any money off shipping but ebay wants to add it to the FV fee which they base there % off. I am a top rated power seller with a 5 star rating. To me its just another way that ebay is taking money from sellers. The free Listing/BIN hopefully will off set it.

Interesting. Unfortunately, idiots who overprice garbage will continue to do so regardless of the fees.

USPS raised some of their prices this week as well. I am sure there'll be a lot more free shipping deals now..

I, for one, applaud the new ebay fee structure. (hold on a bit, don't start throwing rocks at me yet!)
For the longest time now scammers have been using the "insane shipping charge" to circumvent the ebay fee structures. This absolutely hacks me off no end. I've reported dozens, perhaps a hundred, auctions for MASSIVE overcharging on shipping. I've seen shipping fees for a single coin be over $100 and the actual coin start at 99 cents. It's a clear violation of ebay policy to do so.
It's about time this happened!
Many ebayers routinely go a bit high on shipping to cover incidental costs and materials. That's OK, just normal business, you know? But when you are massively overcharging to cheat ebay? No way, and I'm surprised that this took this long to happen.
Massive shipping charges are dishonest, plain and simple, and I will not do business wih anyone who follows this practice.
Yes, it's a gathering of idiots with laughable BIN prices.
I say, hooray! Bully for the old auction-style listings! Let them run five million BIN fantasy price auctions-there's a little tab at the top for "auction only" and it seems bidding has been spirited lately.

Last night was the first chance I had to do some ebay browsing and it's just like I thought. If you go to a category like small cents>wheat>1909-1919 and then sort by "ending soonest" you're bombarded by page after page after page of over-priced garbage.... one crappy seller after another.
