So, will this thread have a 1496 before the Second Edition thread reaches 1497?

update on the coin I was looking at: That site never got back to me with a picture of the "weak date", or even a "get lost" message.

I'm working on getting a coin dated 841 AD. It is a Chinese Kai Yuan Tong Bao with the character Chang on the reverse signifying the first year of Emperor Hui-Chang of the Tang dynasty, 841. Since it was intentionally put there to mark that date, does that count as a dated coin? Sorry, can't help with the 1496... Hefully soon.... Interesting fact, the coins marked Chang were cast with bronze bells and religious artifacts raided from Buddhist monasteries.

Quote: Since it was intentionally put there to mark that date, does that count as a dated coin? Yes. The mark allows you to "date" the coin.

A different coin arrived today, and here is the dealer picture and their attribution. Below is a picture I took with the date traced. 1496 Silver Akce AH 901 - Dealer Image Attribution: Obverse - Arabic inscription: khan Mengli Giray bin Haci Giray khan (or similar, blundered), star left, three pellets within script on right Reverse - Giray tamga, line of dots dividing field above, Arabic inscription: mint name around and date (AH 901) on right (I think that is where they are talking about for the date)
