I am sure you'll get there eventually...okay, maybe not as sure as I was until I realized you weren't wainting for it to come in the mail...rather, waiting for the others to come along with the dates needed. Oops!

I just checked, and the thread that inspired this thread (and lead to HFBCWG2) reached 1506 on January 19, 2014.

I'm no help in this thread, unfortunately, as my oldest dated coin is from 1517 (then it goes 1521, 1597, 1599, 1600, 1615, 1622, 1626, 1639, 1645, 1651, 1658, and none I can remember until 1699; it picks up slightly more after that). I wonder whether the second thread will ever outrun this one, and if so whether somebody notices that the coin(s) should be cross-posted into this thread it has a long way still to go, though (even if they manage to go as far as the rules allow, that still wouldn't get them to 1496 until around next April).

I don't have the time to read the 122 pages. I am sorry. But I got an question to post this coin on this tread. Andreas Griti Coin. That identify BK as the initials of Bernardino da Canal, mint assayer from March 10 1525 to August 30 1525. Explenation/Determination of Philadelphian. So probably is this coin dated for sure dated at 1525.

I'm sorry vince1977, but you're 29 years too late for that. We are currently looking for a coin dated 1496. Although, nice coin!

As outlined somewhere in the earlier pages of this thread: the date does not have to be in the AD calendar or written using Western numerals, but it does have to be a date. There are coins out there which can be narrowed down to a specific year (if for example, a king only reigned for a few months and the date of that reign is very accurately known), but they "don't count" as far as a dated coin for this thread is concerned, unless it actually bears some form of numeric or nomenclative indication of year. Vince's coin is datable to 1525, but it is not dated 1525. So would not have counted as a 1525 coin. My next dated coin is 1493. Sorry, can't help until then.

I have a coin that has a reign marker for a specific year in a reign. Does that count as a date? If it does, then I have a coin from 1256, but I've got quite a wait before I can post it.
