Does AD 1497 = AH 902 ?

I have found online two coins for sale that appear attributed to AH 902.

jbuck posted this earlier, https://goccf.com/t/152518, does this help?

EDIT: it looks like it could be, according to several date converters, but the month/day play a part of it so it could go either be either 1497 or 1498.

The date on the coin is AH 902. If I use that converter AH 902 to AD, it gets 1496. If use that converter AD 1497 to AH, it get 902.

I think we run into this problem repeatedly in the Coin World. The year 2013 translates to 1434-1435 in the Islamic calendar. So, which year do we use?

One possible approach is to just say, we can use 902 for EITHER 1497 or 1496, but not both.

So, since nobody's piped up with a 1497 Gregorian date, I say GO FOR IT. (Also 'cause under those rules, we could also use 901 for EITHER 1496 or 1495).

But wiser heads may have a better idea

Yeah, the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar so it has 10 or 11 less days in the year.

Very nice!

For our goal we will allow it. It is not like the 1497 coins are beating down our door.

The coin arrived today

I tried taking pictures of the coin, but the dealer's image is still better

A very rough sketch of the date

Here is the coin's description. I would appreciate if it can be attributed (and explained) further.

DIRHAM, CAIRO, AH 902. SCARCE RULER.
