currently, we are stuck

jbuck has started a Second Edition to get recent coins and new members involved.

EDIT - the rules were tweaked a little, as in 1 day per year.

Ha! Turns out it is the same as the coin pictured in the reference in CoinsKelly post of 9/17.

But am glad to post my photo ... Seems it can help keep the thread going?

Hit "reply to topic" and...

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Ended-At-1492-Waiting-On-1491

If you get an error saying your pic is too large hit reply to topic again, but this time hit the "Free image optimizer."

The optimizer opens in another window. Load you image, the system will re-size it, and then hit the save button to put it on your computer.

Then go back to step one. This time when you try to load it, it should be OK.

Hi, Fuzzy317,
Responding to your post of 9/7 and the 1499 coin:
- Namen is now called Namur, Belgium, a nice town in the French speaking part of Belgium
- At that time, much of the Low Countries were under the rule of the Dukes of Burgundy.
- Phillip IV (the Handsome, or Philippe le Bel in French) was the first Hapsburg Duke of Burgundy (his father, Maximilian of Austria married Mary of Burgundy), reigning from 1482-1506.

As we go back to the 1470s, we'll see some coins popping up from the reign of his mom (1477-82) and his grandfather, Charles the Bold (1467-77). The briquets and double briquets from Brabant are nice early dated coins, not too pricey. I'll be waiting for 1479 and 1475!

Thanks tdziemia,

I will adjust my notes about the 1499 coin's attribution, as you have given me unknown details.
