Yes...the famous Hapsburg jaw line... "Due to an extreme interbreeding among his progenitors, the hereditary Habsburg jaw was most prominent in Leopold. Because his jaw was depicted unusually large on a 1670 silver coin, Leopold was nicknamed "the Hogmouth"."

Yes, I've heard of that. Charles Quint, Phillip II and the other Hapsburgs got that for reproducing with their family members. Also known as prognathism...How unfortunate. Oh, hello mister Charles:

@t360 - I keep trying to find something different - which is not that hard when the last coin was some big piece of impressive silver...! Anyway, here's a 1676, Denmark Norway 2 Skilling

Andyp, your 2 Skilling is interesting...and it might not be Denmark, but Norway. I say this because many Denmark-ruled Norway coins say "Danske", but yours has the Norwegian Lion and axe. It's too early for the Kongsberg mint, which is perhaps why it got misidentified. I'll forward this to a Norwegian collector to see what he thinks.

It is indeed Norway, KM#131 by the looks of it. Doh!

This 2 skilling 1676 is indeed Norwegian. The Danes never used a rampant lion as centrepiece. I am new here, I was alerted by DVCollector, is this thread meant to show one coin pr year? In that case I have a 1675 here:

Interesting coin, Litotes! It looks to me like it must be a 1675 Barcelona (Spain) 1 Real (Croat) of Charles II.

Whenever I see some of these beautiful old coins, I have to chuckle about Merkin collectors who bounce off walls when they find a coin younger than I am.
