This is a Canon 8MP Point-n-Shoot
DSLR-Vs-Point-N-Shoot

Here's same coin with 8MP Canon Rebel stock lens 18-55 MM. Guess it could have used some lightening up but wanted to show it right out of the camera. Wish someone had told me about these DSLR things before !

I would think the 2nd pic is much clearer, but both seem like great photos. Which photo would YOU say most reflects what the actual in-hand coin looks like?

I'd say the first foto has a tad too much gold and the 2nd foto a tad too much blue but overall the 2nd is closest especially for the detail.

When you take these, do you have a dedicated lighting setup? Or do you flash, or use ambient light?

I'm using 2 compact flourescent bulbs over a copy stand. I've tried other types but these seem to work best for me.
