Adam, 25 90% halves for $70 would be great! Where did you find someone offering them at that price?

Coin show is Sunday so no good purchases yet, but a box of pennies yielded 35 wheats and my first IHC box find, a 1881...

At a coin show I went to recently, I was able to buy a 1917 Canadian Half in EF for $30. He had it marked $40, asked him if that was his best price and then he told me $30. Either price is a steal - I will post a picture as soon as I can.

I got what looks to be at least an EF and possibly AU 1921 Quarter for $90 which I thought was a steal. I also got an 1870 5 cent silver in VF/EF from a reputable dealer that arrived.. but it was an obvious cast fake... it went back.

Successful postal bid at coin auction:

1.)Gold Ashrafi of the Burji Mamluks AD 1422-38, A-998, gVF, US $220, including buyers' commission

2.)1935S San Diego Commemorative half dollar, Pacific International Exposition MS 62, US $120, including buyer's commission

The SD half has some sentimental value for me as well, because I have stood exactly in the scene depicted on the coin. Slightly unusual for an Australian!

Will receive the coins in about a week or so.

So far as the gold is concerned, the Ashrafi is an addition to a series of gold coins from around the World of all eras and ages. So far included in this part of my collection are things like a Greek stater 2 Roman aureii, a Roman solidus, and several ancient Indian gold staters of different types. A long way to go, but at least I have made a decent start.

At this stage, I am concentrating on pre renaissance gold only. I am on the lookout for a nice Arabic dinar at a reasonable price.

I would love an Augustale of Brindisi! (struck around 1250 AD). perhaps I am daydreaming, I have never even seen one! But there are plenty of other quite obtainable pieces that I could afford.

So we are getting deals all the time! Whether we purchase them at a dealer, on ebay, at auction or from a friend, we are getting deals. Deals are great as they give us liquidity - if push came to shove, you could sell these deals and still make a profit, provided you went to a source that is willing to pay. I once owned over 150 Canadian tokens. Bought them as a huge group. Sold them to a dealer who gave me $4 in trade for each one. I got a bunch of nice stuff from him, mostly keys. Don't get to greedy and the deals will present themselves.

my deal this week: 1909 VDB MS-63 for $20 at a coin show. Ok it's not a spectacular deal, but it was originally $25!
