Scotsman,

When I went to Europe I collected all the coins of the EU prior to them having one common denomination. That is something that will have some value in the future as well as they were beautiful coins. So I take the suggestion that it might easier for you to collect coins of Europe than it would be of America.

Many people I meet at coin shows have similar ideas of just that too. And as noted as those older ones fade away, the values of the older ones can only go up, up, up. Then too you have the advantage of coins from countries that actually may no longer exist. Also, do to your location I wonder just how difficult it could be to accumulate an Asian type collection.
For versatility you have it so much better than us in the America's. My Son spent a semester of colledge at a you in Poland and sent me coins from all over the area. I didn't have the hart to tell him I don't collect foreign coins.
