Did anyone collect these as they were released? If so, has the value of them changed any, good or bad?

I liked them, though I realize they are likely just a novelty thing but cool nonetheless. I dont have a complete set unfortunately, one of those things I'm working on.

I bought one for a friend that collects spoons. Littleton Coin Company has some in their Sale section, with many colorized.

Im not a big fan of colorized anything, coins or currency. I've found a couple of places that have some for sale, but their prices seem at bit out of whack.

the ones on Littleton don't say they are silver, so I doubt it.

No, they were not silver, none that I saw early in the program anyway, and in my searches to fill the gaps in my collection I have not come across any. They were all clad coins and I'm not sure what the spoon themselves were made of but it wasnt silver either.

No one has a complete set because they didn't start at the beginning of the series and they discontinued them before the end of the series. You might be able to get a complete set of all the ones they did issue though. (I believe one of them is also an error spoon with the name of the state misspelled. But as far as I know they never issued a corrected version.)

(I'm assuming you are talking about the spoons the mint was selling.)

As far as I know they did start at the beginning of the series as I pulled out a few that I have today and I have at least 1999 & 2000 complete. I was not aware they discontinued them however. I guess that would explain why I have not been able to find the later dates and work back.

The one that was mispelled was Kentucky and they spelled it Kentuckey. I wonder how that got past all the quality control steps, LOL. And yes, I was speaking of the ones the mint was selling.

I guess I will work on getting the ones that are out there, but some of them seem to be fetching a pretty steep premium.

I know they didn't start selling them until at least the second year of the program, I guess they could have gone back and issued the earlier ones at that time as well.
