GO: Wow. That's a crazy score!! My best find so far was an 1897-S Barber quarter from a dealer's junk bin. Cost me $5, probably worth about ten times that in G.

I bought a closed wreath 1849 gold dollar for thirty shillings (30/-) grade MS60, in 1970 at a coin show in Manchester, England, 1970, just before the changeover to decimal currency. At the time thirty shillings was about USD $4. I still have it.
Famous coin, because of the date, a real '49er, when gold was discovered at Suttor's Mill.

I saw 3 silver rims in the teller tray and bought the lot (Aug 2010). When I got to the car and looked at the coins...this is what I saw Got some Chcu straps at a bank a while back, one of the straps contained 8 full / bold wet ink transfers and 5 partial transfers. Bluntedbobylon, I like that printed fold over. Very Nice. If you do not mind post over on the currency forum (front, back and fold opened up). Thanks

I am sure by now everyone here has seen this princess that I got for about $3 (she wasn't in plastic at the time), but I just don't think I will ever eclipse this find.

My "best" found-in-change coin here in Australia was this 1991 proof $1. It's still the only proof coin I've ever plucked from circulation. Does it still count as a "find" if you didn't know you'd "found" it until 7 years after you acquired it? If so, then my "best" dealer-bargain-box coin was this Polish Regency 1 fenig 1917 which I bought from a local dealer for $2 in 1999. The dealer knew it "wasn't listed in Krause" but neither of us knew what that meant at the time. I never knew how scarce and valuable this date really was until I posted that thread back in 2006, not long after I joined this forum.

probably not what your looking for BUT, My best find has to be last night when helping my mother-in-law clean out a filing cabinet......opened up a drawer and found 16 prestige U.S. Mint sets, 3 american silver eagle proofs, 3 benajamin franklin firefighters silver medal proofs, a U.S. Mint proof coin set, a large envelope with old paper currency, and a lot of old silver halves, dollars, and dimes!! haha I know this is not what you meant, but this "find" left me speechless because she said....."o yeah I forgot we had that stuff"

I have a couple of stories ... The year was 1960 and my dad had given me the bug. I was over at a friend's house and he wasn't a collector. I saw an Indian Head cent on his night-stand and asked him if he'd take a quarter for it. Sure thing he said and gave it to me. Dad about fell over when I showed it to him ... an 1877 in G+ condition. Of course he got to thinking this wasn't right and called my friend to ask where he had gotten the coin. I got it from "so and so". Dad recognized the last name as a prominent collector in town and gave him a call. "Do you have an 1877 IHC in your collection?" Sure do. You might want to check on it. He called back and confirmed it was missing and his son confessed. The coin was returned to its rightful owner and dad refused any reward. Two kids learned a lesson, but mine was much less painful than the other boy's. The second is recent ... I picked up an AU 1880-P Morgan dollar off ebay in March for $45, sent it off to PCGS (AU-50 grade) and just parted with it for $4500. Here's the rest of the story https://goccf.com/t/82657

A large portion of my Franklin half dollar collection came from roll finds, so I consider them a great collective find. My best single find would be the 1911 Barber dime I found in a roll of dimes. She is worn, but I still love her. This dime is still in my 7070.

My 1872 Indian Head cent which I got for free from a co-worker in a bunch of foreign coins that he gave me. https://goccf.com/t/78511Told him what I found and still do not want any money for the coins, just were happy that they were with someone who would appreciate having them.

I was given a roll of dimes for my birthday from a very old friend and coin collector about 15 years ago. When I opened the roll, they were all 1949-S that looked like they were minted yesterday.

A neighbor wanted to appraise some coins in her safety deposit box ten years ago. Lots of average silver but this stood out as unique and she gave it to me.

My "best find" was probably finding 2 1998-S LMC Close AM proofs--and a 1999-S too.
