Buying and selling coins and collectibles is a hot topic for reality television. Longtime numismatist Shelley Griffiths talks about how she along with Mal Varner and the staff of Alhambra Coin Center will be part of a new program to premier soon. The program will focus on the adventures of a group of buyers that trade in all kinds of numismatics and other collectibles.
I'll be looking forward to that. It will be a nice break from the only other coins I get to watch on T.V....Overpriced ASE's and Morgans being sold on the shopping network.
I have the episode of Pawn Stars, where the guy brings in $113,000 in silver, on my DVR. I probably watch it three times a week. That guy must wish he sold back when silver was double what it is now.
I saw that episode... I couldn't believe all the silver that guy walked in with, especially that huge bar that Rick had to drill into to check for a lead core
What killed me was what they did with some of the silver. Sent it away and had it melted into silver rounds with the old man on them that they were then going to sell for $60.00. $60.00 for a one ounce round?!?! Are they nuts? I wouldn't pay over double the price of a round regardless of who was on it.
Also, When Rick was questioning whether or not it was silver I thought he was just going to cut it in half. It made me think of a video I saw of these guys that were sure they had a fake 100oz englehard because of the sound it made when they hit it with a screwdriver. They cut it in half only to find it was solid silver in the middle...basically destroyed the bar for no reason.
The only time I have ever seen silver like that is when a shipwreck is recovered. Goldeneaglecoin has shipwreck silver and it always comes in odd weights.
