Welcome to all of you who have even seen anAustralian coin.
I think they are beautiful and I don't have to compete with most people on this forum in auctions and at sales.

I would love to have a good chin wag with any of you that have an interest in the coins from the land of OZ

remember USA coud stand for Unattached suburb of Australia

Enjoy the forum and all the worlds coins both old and new.
Same to you banknote and other collectors.

Welcome Richard. I have seen quite a few Australian coins that I really like. Some of the designs are so intricate and I've always like the animal designs.

I like that. US coins hardly ever change. We've been looking at the same designs (aside from the quarters and nickels) for way, way too long. I have definitely been thinking about this "darkside" thing.

Susanlynn9 that is exactly what took me to the darkside. And, about the time I got the urge to make the leap the Euro was being released so guess where I went? Don't get me wrong as I love and collect ALL U.S. coins but have found the euro very entertaining. I also have picked up some Australian coins and really like the square Kookabura one half ounce silvers I bought in 2004! Now I have to figure out how to find the 2002 and 2003 versions at a fair price as I am certain they sold out! Going to world coins, after swearing for years and years I would never do it, has been one great awakening for me! Oh, the art, the beauty, the culture, the history that was never taught in school, and basically not much competition here in the states when it comes to bidding but it is picking up steam now! None the less I will never regret slipping into that dark realm of the underworld that only the brave dare speak about!!! Where else can you buy silver coins at face value other than many of the European countries? Got to love that!!!

What does the term Dark side, mean in cion collecting.
I have been accused of being a darksider ( I'm not named Darth Vader)

try this Australian forum for the coins you are looking or or I can suggest via pm/email names of dealers in the Us or Australia that can help you locate those coins

Sorry. I meant to reply and then got distracted. "Darksiders" refers to collectors of World Coins. It's also used when trying to get people to start collecting World Coins as in "Come on over to the Darkside".

And here I thought it had something to do with Star Wars and Darth Vader.

Collecting foreign coins, at least in my life time, was not real highly thought of in this area! You JUST didn't talk about those foreign coins let alone actually collect them so if you did, how should I put this, ocassionaly slip a foreign coin (heaven forbid) into your collection, well you just admired it privately, so to speak. But NOW US DARKSIDERS HAVE COME OUT OF THE CLOSET AND WE ARE PROUD OF WHAT WE ARE DOING AND WE ARE GOING TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO PASS THIS SIDE OF THE HOBBY ON TO WHOMEVER WILL LISTEN!!! This is probably the only time in my life when I can say I intend to "INFECT THE LITTLE CHILDREN!" Give them the coin bug and take them away from the TV and video games!!! My kids have it and we are coming for yours!!! Give in to the darkside! (All I need is an address and those foreign coins CAN and WILL find there way to your unsuspecting child!) I have done it before and I will do it again! Spreading coins, knowledge, history and culture across the globe! I long for the day when every one of you will have a child saying "Daddy/Mommy can we go to the coin shop"? Just imagine.....!

Hey, Crystalk64, did I mention how glad I am to have you here? We need a darksider! Actually, between my ancients that are still soaking in olive oil and some of the gold k-rands I've seen, I'm kind of on the fence

Give in SUSAN!!! You can't run forever! It will be lurking in the shadows every where you go...calling out to you! And then of course there are guys/gals like me that will constantly "Haunt" you until you do because we then will have SOMETHING in common to talk about (like we don't already)! Tell you what...You email me your mailing address and I will GIVE you your first silver euro PROOF from one of the more expensive euro nations to purchase coins from. The coin I have in mind will require you to do a little research on the subject but you really need to see this COIN!!!! Email me.......GIVE IN SUSAN.....YOU KNOW YOU WANT to see and feel this proof, don't you? I will look for your repy and ..... If you get hooked don't blame me as I am just following those little voices in my head!!! NOW NO ONE COULD RESIST an OFFER LIKE THIS!

I think the deciding factor is going to be when my ancients come out of their soak. At this rate, I'm now planning for around 2008

I still haven't had a chance to see what heating the oil will do.

Rggoodie,

Do you have a coin purse made of kangaroo fur? My wife picked one up at a garage sale and it had a few Australian coins it, but she just like the purse. I don't believe the coins were anything great, mostly from the 1980's.
