Hi All

I'm new here to the forum but hope that someone among the experts could help me. I have had this coin in my possesion since the early 1970s. I bought it in Athens from who I thought was a reputable coin and antique dealer at a shop downtown. It is a silver Tetradrachma with the profile of Alexander the Great and Zeus on the back (see photo). Anyway I decided to evaluate it's current worth and was told by another "expert" that it is probably a 20th century copy. This coin is really stunning and has good weight in silver. The details, as can be seen in the photos are very fine.

Did that little old Greek guy in the shop stick it to me?
Thanks for any help offered.

It does not look too old. And the details look like cast not stuck.
I doubt it's ancient.

Gentlemen,

I would like to Thank you all for your input on this, and although I feel pretty sheepish for my mistake, I'll chalk that up to a "learning curve" in this particular subject which honestly I have had only a mild curiousity. This all occured 40 years ago, and lets face it very few of us were experts in anything when they were 18 years old (except teenage girls maybe...).

I very much appreciate you taking the time. I guess it would make a nice pendant for my Wife or Daughter now that I know it's true worth.

Best regards,
Frogman/ ED

LOL This is a good one! I can't resist to add that when we were 18 before, not only teenage girls we're experts but also experts on life especially when arguing with our parents!
