I beleive I would rather pay Heritage's fee's than pay ebay's fee's when it comes to publicity that Heritage would generate with a set of this magnitude. The seller is Rare Coin Wholesalers so we all know they are a legit company and definately would be one to have this sort of collection but the question still remains, why ebay http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1...717176&mpre=http://cgi.ebay.com/Finest-Known-Original-Pan-Pac-Commemorative-Set_W0QQitemZ 220046343312

I have seen items of this sort of magnitude put up on ebay just for advertising purposes. I would bet that the vendor will remove the listing after a week or so and eat the listing fees just as a way of generating some interest in the item.

That's exactly what it is. Note the link to their website, very large, right smack in the middle of the listing. Extremely ebay illegal, but they don't care, they think they're above ebay law.

Markn, You beat me to it. Yes, I agree. I believe the seller has simply put the coins up for the advertising that will flow from it. For me, the question that remains is "Do people with that sort of money frequent ebay, i.e., trolling for bargains?"

sur they do, just because you have alot of money doesn't mean you just wait for others to attribute that expensive coin they bought on ebay when you can go looking on ebay and buy it from an unsuspecting seller for fractions of what its worth if they actually knew it was a very rare die marriage or what ever. And in those times you just hope others think like you and that others with the money doesn't troll ebay looking for the same type of items. Even if it does get a little interest you will look like you are paying stupid money to all the unsuspecting other ebayers when in fact you are laughing all the way to the bank

Something else to consider...I don't believe that Rare Coin Wholesalers pays any ebay fees. There are a number of companies that have agreements like this. ebay counts on the hits that their site will get from these high-priced auctions and that more than makes up for the fees they don't get. It's a winning situation for both the seller and ebay.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to have that much money and be able to afford something that beautiful. I wouldn't know what it would be like to have $695 to spend on coins let alone $695K.

Well if they did it for advertising purposes it worked. I've seen posts here, on the NGC boards, and the PCGS boards now so people are talking about it!

I have spent a couple thousand on one coin a few times but I would LOve to be able to affrord that set because not only are the coins beautiful, they are a very important peice of numismatic history that very few people are able to own and not because not may people have the money, its just that the sets doesn't exist

Does PayPal even accept amounts this high? Seems to me that if this much came through PayPal's system, there'd be a lot of smoke around the computers as they went up in flames when they short out.

No, I don't believe Paypal does accept this much money. It is not excpected to sell on ebay...just drive people to their site and get people interested in ebay.

For this amount of money, I wouldn't be having anyone other than myself handling the transaction. What's a flight to the US and a couple of days stay over compared to $650K? No thanks paypal, I'll pick it up personally
