I bought these three mercs. The guy didn't mention that the "s" was damaged. It's has been hit with a punch, I thought it was glare or something and should have checked it closer. He offered to take them back, but less shipping. The other 2 coins are fine. I can't neg the guy if he would take them back. And he does not have any that he can sell me to replace it. Your right, Lesson learned. Up to you to keep or not. Nice of him to offer to take it back. Send it back in a reg envelope, but then how much is he going to credit back to you.

Lesson learned. It's only $10, and you received $7.50 worth of melt value for that $10. It would be different if we were talking $250.
A damaged mint mark makes little difference with coins of this value.

Yeah I wish all my goofs were that cheap.  But I did get lucky on my last goof and had a good seller that gave a full refund and covered the shipping both ways to keep me happy. I told him I'd pay the shipping back, but he added $10 extra for shipping and my trouble anyway. |

Agree with everyone else. He didn't give any comments on the coins' condition, so you needed to get all your info from the photos. So he wasn't trying to hide anything. And he did say No Returns Accepted. Seems like a right guy to actually offer a return.
For such a small amount of money, a return wouldn't be worth the hassle. I'd just toss the coin in the Misc. section of my collection. Maybe you could trade someone for a piece of bubble gum.

I agree with the consensus, a lesson learned at a reasonable price. Keep the coin as a reminder to be more diligent in the future.  |

Yeah I have to agree with the rest of the guys. Just keep them and thank the guy for his return offer. You will still have the silver and save your self a trip to the post office plus the return shipping. I think you would actually come out in the hole if you don't keep them.

i agree. I would keep jsut keep them. I sure have made much bigger mistakes on ebay before. you live and you learn. |

Still, the coin is indeed damaged. It would have been nice of the seller to mention it.

Since he mentions the mint marks in the auction I'd say the seller is in the wrong here and should refund the full amount plus pay the shipping back if you want to return them. I'd do that if I was the seller.

In my opinion, he is emphasizing that they are .900 silver. If a person does that you need to assume that they are just silver value coins.
The picture does show the damage. If you were not sure you should of emailed him and asked.
Happens to every one of us.

Usually when something like this happens to me, not often but enough, I contact the seller about the issue. They always respond with "Send the coin back and I will refund you the money minus the shipping". I explain that the ad/article/post didn't mention {insert here what was wrong or not mentioned} and instead of sending the coin back, can he just refund me the shipping charges.
It has worked everytime, I am happy, he gets a positive with five stars and life goes on. I had a seller place a proof set in a normal overnight package from USPS. No protection whatsoever and the envelope was designed for paper documents, not bulky box items. When it arrived there was a tear in the back that the driver did not see and the set was gone. I contact the seller (couldn't tell who, had to go by city and state on the envelope) and explained what happened and what exactly did she ship so I could open a claim with USPS.
I didn't ask for anything in the transaction other then to verify what she had shipped, I filled out the form from USPS (Not that it has ever done me any good) and went on with my life. Two days later this seller sent me another identical proof set out of the blue with no charge whatsoever!!! I about fell over, it wasn't her fault but felt she should have packaged it better. She didn't charge shipping charges in the original auction. I have since purchased lots of proof sets from her.

The seller should have had a clearer photo of the reverse. He had a good in focus photo of the obverse of the dimes. Ed ANA LM-3175 |
