1849 Seated dollar (Possible Proof)

Someone help me out. Give me your opinion. Or knowledge on id'ing a 1849 Proof. They have a couple re-strikes that were done in 1850 and 1851. Then there's the original proof dies. Multiple reverses also, I'm having trouble. It looks like a solid original die, original strike, let me know what you guys thinks.

Way too big to be a proof. Might be chocolate.

Pix too blurry to tell, even when shrunk by 2/3.

Thought I read recently where they now make Chinese fakes with proof surfaces.

There are fewer than 10 1849 Proofs known. If it is one, it's....pricey. Like, 5 digits pricey. Heck, if it's a Business Strike in this condition, its' value is probably in the same range - I don't believe any Prooflike examples are known.

Are you familiar with the known Proof defects around the 4 in the date - some pits/chips in the triangle, and two differing reliefs on the vertical stroke of the 4 (lower on the bottom and crosslet, higher on the top and diagonal) - and does this coin have them? Look also for "messiness" under the chin - the die was not fully developed there.

If real, this is one of the most valuable coins ever presented for public opinion at Coin Community. I'm not necessarily optimistic - this is an extremely rare coin either in Mint State or Proof, and the consensus is that all Proof examples are known.

No experience with proof Seated dollars, but the stars and denticles look kinda soft for a proof strike. The possibility that this is a fake is unfortunately high. Certification by a top grading service should be mandatory. They can determine whether it is a proof, a business strike, a P-L example, or something with "questionable authenticity".

Hope it's real, and if so wish it were mine!

Its amazing to me also. I have studied the proofs from this year. And amazingly enough I can't find one reason to belive its not a proof. Ad I've authinticated it. Its perfect in everyway. Under the chin is exactly like the prof examples I've compared it to. Like not polished exactly the same. Also the 4 does have problems and the horizontal crosslet dos sit noticably lower than the rest of the 4.

Since this is such an amazing piece I will get you some really good pictures. My computer broke, that's why I took camera phone pics. But I can assure you this is 100% authentic...

Maybe do a weight comparison from a known seated to your pctured coin before sending it off.

OK here is the best I can do from my phone... tell me what you think, look at the unpolished curve under the chin and the relief of the horizontal crosslet on the 4.

OK, now I think this coin has been cleaned, but with 10-15 known. Even a genuine proof would bring big money. What do you think it would bring proof or business strike if it comes back cleaned.

I have authenticated it and I have never seen one with such strong proof fields. Everyone pray for me I'm sending it off this week to NGC as a 1849 Proof.
