As I have seen and talked with many who are well educated with the
TPG's and PGCS IT IS ABOUT the money....letting coins into the population only decreases the values they have already in the population as supply and demand play an important part of there guarenteed values....
in there today's standards,
an ms 64 coin "must be at least" MS64.5 not just ms 64..
all coins must "exceed" the minimum grade by a half point....
Here is where the delema arises.....this 1885 lacks any issues on the face..a clear ms 65 candidate....so this coin does exhibit MS 64 plus quality but does not make MS 65+ so its reverted to MS 64.....
NOW the delema is only magnified by "ALL THE PREVIOUSLY graded coins IN HOLDERS that are not as good as this who have the MS65 designation.......
THESE COINS would not hold to today's standards I think you would all agree....
Yet what does this say about the coins we hold in the graded slabs? that won't meet the criteria of todays standards?
Its all about the money and submission money..income for any business not for the consumers protection of value invested....
There is a saying..."BUT THE COIN NOT THE HOLDER"
at this rate you need BUY coins at ms 66, for an MS65 price
FOR the Questionand meaning of SP
SP means Specimen, or...a coin produced in the coins developement.. The coins "dies" are meant to finalize what the production coins will look like... the image is chosen..dies are made..if they like the looks of them, coins will be struck to see how they will look like...and yes...there are few coins strike so the coins will the MS 67 and upwards..MS 67 is a low grade for such a die..
it's basically a minimum grade for a die which has few strikes on it, so now you can understand his frustration...however any of the "slightest of flaw" will yield MS67 "under magnification"....not in hand... I hope this helps your understanding..
