Any thoughts on this one? I wouldn't guess this is Roman as it came in a lot of uncleaned medieval coins. Have gone through Wildwoods and Forvm but can't find a match. No inscription other than what appears to be VIII on the obverse but it could be some sort of symbol followed by III.

Spanish colonial (Mexico?) copper 8 (VIII) Maravdis. Also, referered to a "cob". From the 1600's.

Thanks Meldercat. Haven't been able to run it down yet but I found a couple of Maravdis that were very very close to what I have. The figure on the obverse matches exactly but they didn't have the stamped VIII. Both 1600's. The closest in appearance was 1604. Most of the examples I found were dated but mine is not so I'm thinking maybe mine may be earlier.
