I think it is either a "woody" or just toned like that. It doesn't look like staining to me, but I could be wrong. The streaking is a little less prominent in hand. I thought it added to the attractiveness of the coin.
The letters and date and the buffalo's head are strong but the obverse hair, braids and feathers and the reverse buffalo body & legs are all lacking in detail. True, it is a full horn...
yes, its a woody for sure- which I think looks cool-that doesn't add or subtract value-just an imperfect alloy mix-as far as the grade goes, it looks to me to be XF-40.
I would say AU50. I would love to have it in my buffalo collection, and the toning, or woody, whichever the case my be really adds to the eye appeal IMO. Very nice coin.
