Does anyone know what the mark stands for on a 1 frank coin from Belgium just right of the head of king Boudewijn (1989-1993; KM 170-171)? It look likes an "E" with a sword through it.
Can anybody help?

I believe it is a mint mark or privy mark, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identi...n_euro_coins and http://www.wbcc.fsnet.co.uk/af-bun.htm so might indicate the mint master.

I would assume it's the coin designer's mark. I haven't been able to track down who actually designed these coins.

@Enlil, thanks for your replies. Unfortanetly, none of these links supply me with an answer. At least I can't find it.

@Sap: thanks for your efforts. I would think someone would know what the mark stands for since it's not a mysterious country and/or a coin of yarn.

Sap is right (what else is new? ;) ), and the designer's name is Harry Elstrøm. See http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Elstrøm ...
