Somebody once told me I have a broadcasting voice and a face for radio...not quite sure how to take that. * Broadcasting voice - I don't need a PA, my voice travels far enough by itself. * Face for radio - some people are better heard than seen?

I work as a statistician but my Ph.d was in engineering geology, so that's where my heart lies.
And yes - I have been a guitarist in a band (we were awful) but I know you were hoping for a singer :))

Hopefully the moderators don't mind if I bump this old thread for the benefit of newer members. Very interesting thread. Currently I'm working for a municipal government but am still considering law school as alluded to in my earlier post to this thread.
Not sure if this can be substantiated but I have always heard that 1). Lawyers tend to like classic gold, 2) Doctors and other medical professionals gravitate towards early coppers, and 3) engineers, architects, and people in the building trades like early American coinage like Draped Bust coinage.

All-
Interesting thread indeed! As I've briefly mentioned elsewhere, I'm an entomologist (tough to guess from the name, huh?). I received my BS in entomology in the early '90s and my Ph.D. in systematic entomology (studying the evolutionary relationships among insects) in the early '00s. Been working as a Collection Manager (i.e. scientific librarian) for a university bug collection since then. And yes, identifying and arranging bugs in little boxes with perfect little labels is part of my job (but don't ask me to arrange my socks in a drawer, or even get them into a drawer in the first place- my OCD is very selective!).
I've only been out of academia for three out of the last 25 years, between my degrees. In those three years I worked in a bakery, picked grapes at a winery, renovated houses, cleaned apartments (for one miserable day), worked for a jewelry wholesale business and sold said jewelry in the parking lot of Grateful Dead shows. As a matter of fact, on a per-hour basis selling jewelry in parking lots has been by far my most lucrative job!
And a dad. Can't forget that.
cheers, tbg

I am a retired Canadian Navy Officer, served almost 30 years in the technical trades maintaining/repairing systems. I am still working for our Navy as a civilian employee in support of our ships/equipment. I used to say that "if we had two navies, I'd join them both".
