SDcoinguy Pillar of the Community United States 2424 Posts	Posted 07/29/2011 4:44 pm * Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. * ok so my friend txted me that he found 14x $30 Gold Bonds. he says that they say "second issue 6% #285 interest payable @ bank of la mesa, CA. each bond says - #285 $30 each. we are wondering if there is any added value to these or are just worth face and are only redeemable at this bank. SDcoinguy Pillar of the Community United States 2424 Posts	Posted 07/29/2011 4:53 pm well, they are from 1926 chances are the bank has changed names.... also not sure if he meant that they appear in the color GOLD or you can redeem them for gold. my guess is that they are gold looking in color. as a few of my savings bonds from years back were gold looking. Gold bonds (redeemable in gold) were very common prior to 1933 when the U.S. went off the gold standard. After that the bonds were still redeemable, just not in gold. Something smaller than a dollar bill doesn't sound like a typical bond. More likely these were bond coupons that were detached as interest was paid semi-annually. A picture would have been helpful.
